Day one

Woke up in a strange place. My head feels fuzzy. No clue how I got here or even where "here" is. Decided to keep a journal so I don't forget anything else about my life. I seem to be in some sort of cave. I found the entrance of the cave. It was night time. I don't seem to have any sort of light on me at the moment and I don't feel like stumbling around in the dark. Maybe I'll remember something in the morning. If nothing else at least I'll be able to see then. So much for my eventful first day.

Turns out for the past 2 weeks I've had bronchitis. Very icky. This past Friday I attended my uncle's funeral. Everyone thought he had so much potential when he was young. Then he spent 30 years in a drunken haze, tearing any ties of friendship and family that he could get his hands on to tiny little shreds. He did some things that make me and the rest of my family ashamed that we were from the same bloodline. That being said...he was a human. And he was family. It was an extremely sobering experience to see him laying there in the casket. The general consensus was that we were expecting him to jump up at any second and scream "GOTCHA!" Such a time never came though. It's a shame that he's gone. It's an even bigger shame that he wasted so many years of his life avoiding life.
And then after all this, i guess the final straw was laid down today. I was on youtube lookin' random stuff up. There was this dude on here who made beautiful music with his flute, and it really touched my soul. And then I looked into the comments and found out that he had passed away recently. And then finally...i had a revelation. (...well....again.)
I'm not ready to die. For a long time now i've been saying how i've come to terms with death and whenever it's time for me to go i'll go without regrets. I guess it's good to live without regrets, but still...I do not want to die yet! I'm just not ready. There's still so much i've yet to do! I want to live, I want to keep on experiencing and enjoying life as i have the past decade. But most of all....I want to see tomorrow.

That's pretty much it...

I can't go yet. Not untill I see tomorrow. Once tomorrow is here, then I can go.

And that's the beauty of it. It will never be tomorrow. Because tomorrow is always a day away. Just out of reach.

Y'know...my skull feels a lot smaller when i actually put my hands on it and feel it than at any other time. I guess it's because it's basically the center of "me", of my thoughts, my personality, even my instinctual urges. My imagination being what it is...capable of forming anything without limits to design, shape, size, or composition, with pretty much limitless space (although i despise contemplating anything that's infinite. It makes me feel sad when i try to picture something that's infinite in my mind actually, and if i ponder infinity too long i start to feel dizzy and disoriented)...it makes sense that the place where my "me" lives would seem large. But honestly, it's just this somewhat oblong sphere that takes up at most 1 cubic foot of space (no, i haven't actually taken the volume of my head. That's just an estimation).

It's kinda cool that something so tiny that's merely made of bone, skin, and goo (yea...gettin' technical with the terms now) is capable of so much complexity. And there's still just so much about or own minds that we can't even begin to comprehend yet.

Some people see my love of darkness as being "emo" or something kin to it. I (obviously) don't agree. There's just a certain beauty to be had in darkness. Not complete darkness of course. But you can't sit there and tell me there's nothing beautiful about a moonlit night, or a candlelit room. Both of those situations contain on average more darkness than light.

Of course...that's a nonsensical statement 'cause as we all learned in science class, there is no such substance as darkness really. Darkness is merely the absence of light. Just as "cold" is merely the absence of heat. So if you look at it that way there can't be an amount of darkness or an amount of cold. But fuck science. I like thinking that darkness and cold are substances or entities.

How do our brains determine whether something tastes "good" or not? Is that one instinctual, or is that a learned trait. I've had fancy food before. Things people would have said was "gourmet" and is very delicious. But honestly a grease-laden pizza from Papa John's would taste better to me.

Also...why will Luna not eat anything but dry cat food and almonds? She'll lick potato chips or anything with a lot of salt, but other than that she will not eat anything but dry cat food. Not even cheese. Or chicken. Or fish.

Another Emo post

Yes, another emo post. I'm not forcing you to read it if you don't want, but you've had fair warning.

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. Over the past month or two that's not really been that bad of a thing because no matter how much I thought I stayed in a good mood, and a few times taking time to just sit arround and think actually put me in an even better mood.

A while back I decided to just start trying to have a good day every day merely by will power alone. Yes, I had days where I'd be down or work would get to me and I'd be pissed, but for the most part I would get over it quickly and go back to being in a good mood. But today I started to think what if I'm hiding from the truth and that my life's still on the road to disaster.

I would mainly get depressed in the past because college is going horrible. Even if it were going great and I were on the verge of graduating, I still have no clue what I'm going to do after I get my diploma. The past month or two I kept telling myself that I just needed to take it one step at a time. Since Computer Science didn't seem to be working out I decided it'd be best to look into changing majors. Of course I'm already so far into Computer Science that I wouldn't want to just jump ship to another major if there's any way I could finish out with this one. Also I'm not sure if there's a certain point in your accademic career where if you reach so many hours and still haven't graduated they just say "Hey, that's enough. Go get a job." And if there is i have no clue how close i am to that point. I'm not even sure if staying at UNA would be best.

So finally, after deliberating over this for almost an entire year I decided I simply didn't have enough information to make a wise decision. So obviously the first step would be to go arround and talk to the heads of departments in the majors I'm thinking about in both places and see what I can find out about each one, and maybe that way figure out what I'm best suited for.

I hate that my brain moves faster than I can. It's frustrating.

But anyway, with the way my place of employment was working me I knew I wouldn't have time to do this all in one day, and I'd really like to do that...just start it and get it all over with before i drag it out too long.

And so I decided that the next business day after i quit (that'll be this upcoming monday) I'd go get at least one of the colleges taken care of, and then do the other one soon afterwards.

So every time within the past month or two that I've started thinking about college or my future career, I just reminded myself to take it one step at a time and that i couldn't do anything about it untill November 12. That reassured me and I went back to happier thoughts.

Well now I've just started stressing. I mean i'm 24, getting closer to 25 and I still live at home. I've never had to worry about a car payment, insurance, my own medical bills...hell, I haven't even had to pay for my own gas. And god damnit, I know you're just gonna say "Yea, that sounds so horrible. I'm glad my life isn't that rough." in that fucking irritating sarcastic tone of yours. But the point is, I'm not saying my life is rough. It's not. At all. It's a piece of cake. But how fucking long can it stay that way when I have no real world experience whatsoever.

What if it turns out I'm just not cut out for college? Will I be able to find a job anywhere that'll keep me alive? And if i do will i be able to keep my sanity through it?

I feel like such a freaking failure at life though. And honestly I hardly even care about the fact that I've never had a girlfriend anymore. I don't give a damn if i go through my entire life a virgin, i really don't see anything wrong with that. And I've got friends who I know will always be there for me (provided I don't do something extremely stupid to run all of them off as well). But I feel I'm a failure because i don't see much success for myself in the future.

I used to take pride in my ability to cheer up friends whenever they were down. That's why I make so many jokes at my own expense, I just love to make people laugh and see the people I care about happy. But lately it doesn't even seem I'm capable of cheering people up anymore.

What the fuck is wrong with me? Why do I get so depressed over shit like this? And if this stuff really bothers me so much, then why can't or won't I do anything about it? It's the same stuff I've been stressing about since 2001 and yet I still haven't succeeded in fixing all my problems.

God why do i hate everything so much right now.

Comments have been disabled. Don't even bother trying to tell me to quit being emo 'cause I'll just respond with a big "fuck you".

Summary:
I'm not depressed about the present. Never have been. My present situation is great. The future scares the shit out of me and i find that depressing.

It's funny how simply going to one certain forum and just perusing the threads posted there can put me in a nearly euphoric state of mind. But one has to wonder...at what point will i find the courage to step forward and make myself (or at least this entity called "Foxborn") known to the group of potential peers waiting there. Am I doomed to forever lurk deep within the shadows of anonymity, or will I step out into the silvery moonlight and present myself to this group of names who profess similar attitudes towards life? (for better or for worse)

And if I do step out, am recognized and then accepted, what will come of it? Will I learn that one secret that seems to have been eluding my grasp for 24 years now? And if so, once learned, will i wish it unlearned? Or upon being swept up in their ranks, will i find this group too are nothing but masks? Mere lumps of limestone, writing "star" on their chests with a magic marker and thinking they shine with brilliance? Or will i find that I'm the sedimentary rock with the erroneous label?

Will i form new relations with these people? Adding new allies, rivals, and sub-characters to the story of my life, or will my flighty nature cause me to lose interest, becoming "that guy" who appeared suddenly, but just as quickly faded back into anonymity.

Oh well. All these are just merely the random musings of my mind late on this autumn day, recorded here for Goddess-knows-what reason. Ignore it if you wish, or comment if it tickles your fancy, but these random posts will not stop, because you never know how anything will affect different people...even people you thought weren't paying attention, or you didn't know exist.

But you rarely have an impact on anyone if you're always silent.

Once again hope has been given to me by post secret.

Someone sent a postcard saying how they got an iPhone but it still never rings and about how lonely they were. There was an email after that from a guy saying he felt the same way, and he gave them permission to post his name and # on the site. Instantly I was worried about him. I usually have low expectations of mankind, and i knew a bunch of assholes would probably call him and make fun of him or something.

Then I got to the end of the page and there was another email. This one from someone who called Ryan (the guy who posted his #). He said that he heard from Ryan how so many people had been calling him to wish him well and be kind. And this person...talking to a complete stranger with whom he had nothing in common except for loneliness...took time out of their day to try and make him smile and cheer him up. For no personal gain whatsoever other than knowing they did a good deed and made someone else happy. And from what was posted this person wasn't the only one.

It warms my heart to see people being kind...just random acts of kindness without any thought of reward or praise. Unsung heroes. This truly brought a tear to my eye.

Wanderlust explained?

I've always loved the open road. Seeing new areas spreading out before me and knowing I have no schedule so plenty of time to explore them fully. I often stare longingly down side roads and just wonder "Where would you take me if I were to allow it?" And occasionally i answer the call of such roads. I've always had wanderlust. And not just while in a car. I'll be walking somewhere and start wondering what lies just over that rise over there to the right, or around that corner to the left.

I've been starting to wonder if maybe i'm trapped in a life that wasn't intended for me. I somehow feel like I should've left my home long ago and just started wandering through this world of ours. It seems like it would be kinda nice, just being a drifter. No obligations and no worries other than where the next meal would come from. Going wherever my feet felt like taking me.

I spend most my life torn by the two sides of my mind, however. One side, the impulsive, creative, emotional side; the other the cold, logical side. So the impulses call me but before i take the first step the other side clears its throat and informs me of all the people who would miss me if i were to go, and burdens me down with all the lose ends i'd leave here. Also it points out that although i could survive as a drifter that i'd have to leave behind all the comforts i've gotten used to. Fast food. Anime. Computers.

The nerdy side of me demands my constant umbilical chord of technology.

The artistic side of me demands nothing more than ground moving past me beneath my feet, and an occasional display of creative thought (which i've proved in the past i can make art out of trash)

I've been sheltered by the sweet embrace of technology for so long that breaking free of it at this point would be nigh impossible. It is at once my cohort and my warden.

I miss you, life that never was.

Fuck being emo! Fuck negativity! Fuck being pessemistic. 'Cause y'know...yes! There are horrible people in the world and life gets almost unbearable at times, and at times people make idiotic decisions and throw everything away for nothing.

But through it all, there are always people who see through the pain and the shit and the negativity to do everything within their power to reach out to others lost in the void and show them the light, to help teach them how to see happiness in life again. Those people are the true fucking heroes.

A long time ago i struggled...to find meaning in life, a reason to go on, or to care. I found it. Lately i've forgoten it, and that's why i've felt so cut adrift.

6 Years ago, the same day the scars on my arm apeared, i made a vow to myself not only never to give up, but that i would do everything within my power to become a person who helps others get through rough times in their lives, who cheers them up when they're down, and hopefully by my small acts of kindness convince others who consider throwing in the mortal towel as i once considered, to instead give life another shot.

I'm sorry i was angsty/emo. I'm better now. I've remembered.

I know I shouldn't complain about my life. I know there's a ton of people a hell of a lot less fortunate than me. I've got it pretty damn good at the moment...i've got a car, somewhat of a job, a comfortable place to live, a loving family, good friends, and good health. I've got some artistic skill, a small amount of musical skill, I'm fairly intelligent, and (despite what some of you may think) most of the time my outlook on the world is fairly optimistic. True, I do have low self esteem, but i've even started getting over that.

But honestly, sometimes it just hits me that this world is shit. There are so many people out there who'd rather kick you than even look at you. Horrible people do horrible things to other people all the time, and what's the reason behind it? Usually nothing. There are times when I just wish that I didn't exist.

I seem to lack the ability to quit existing at will, however, so when i get in moods like this i just withdraw almost completely from society for a day or two to recover. It may be childish, it may be unhealthy, i dunno...but it's what i do, and it works. Besides i only do it once every several months and it only lasts a few days. Afterwards i'll go back to my crappy "true joy of life" posts which i assume are ignored equally as much as this.

But whatever. This is my journal, not yours. I use this thing to vent my frustration with the world, and I for one find venting by typing my frustrations out is a hell of a lot more healthy than most of the alternatives.
